Well, for me that did eliminate the depression but it was followed by hypomania. My memory was also affected and those time periods are gone but I was so very ill, that ECT was the TX of last resort. Have you and your pdoc considered the class of ADs known as MAOIs…they are excellent for BP depression although there are tyramine (an amino acid) food restrictions. The 3 which come to mind are Nardil, Marplan, and Parnate. If you would like more information on MAOIs I woukld be glad to provide it for you. Just email me, okay? I have included some ECT web sites for you. http://www.psych.org/public_info/ECT~1.HTM http://www.ect.org/ http://www.banshock.org/ http://text.nlm.nih.gov/nih/cdc/www/51txt.html http://www.med.upenn.edu/ect/ http://www.grohol.com/electro.htm Peace, Lynda

Response:
Such has been my observation not my experience. A fellow patient came out of ECT forgetting that she was a chain smoker – but not for long.
