Someone out there needs to start covering some 80’s "Slease metal" – Faster Pussycat, Dirty Looks, Bang Tango, stuff like that. I’m all for people twisting song, making them their own. Although if there’s one thing that *really* annoys me, its bands who cover song EXACTLY THE SAME. Don’t get me wrong I’m not talking about little band our new bands, but bands who are fairly big anyway. Cheers ~chris~ — "A song is a beautiful lie" ~Idlewild~

There’s a rather obscure metal band called Manowar that makes music heavily influenced by Wagner. Incidentally, this group has an astounding bass player, Joey DeMaio. Ever hear somebody play classical guitar on an 8-string bass? He did bass solo renditions of the William Tell Overture ("William’s Tale") and Flight of the Bumblebee ("Sting of the Bumblebee"). Rik

A bluegrass-ish band known as "Luther Wright and the Wrongs" just covered the entire Pink Floyd "The Wall" album and called it "Rebuilding the Wall". Its a pretty funny concept, too. John

If you like odd covers, have you ever heard the band Lounge Against the Machine? Lead singer Richard Cheese can make ANY tune into a sleazy lounge tune. Quite amusing. Not at all.I’m partial to inventive covers myself,as long as they add something to the original instead of murdering it.I’ve got two different covers of one of my favourite Richard Thompson songs ‘Wall of Death’.One by REM and one by a country and western duo. They’re both good imo.And then there’s Paul Young’s excellent job of Marvin Gayes ‘Wherever I Lay My Hat’, with Pino featuring. As for different styles, the best example I can give is ‘Powderfinger’ by the Cowboy Junkies.Compared to Neil Young thrashing away on the original,it’s almost a different song. There is a dark side though – Rolf Harris doing ‘Stairway to Heaven’… SR
