Need help with blower motor replacement '89 200
Question:
Does anyone have info on removal and replacement of the heating system blower motor replacement (either a bentley manual or website that has instructions) for a 1989 200? My friend that I relied on has a 1990 90 and it’s motor is accessed from inder the glove box. If anyone can help I’d sure appreciate. Thanks

I asume that the blower unit of a 200 is the same as from a 100. I had the same question for my ‘84 100 with airco unit. (without airco unit it can be done without any difficulty, because the blower unit is originally designed for use without an airco; the airco is later added to it, and causes some problems f.e. with the replacement of the blower motor.) Did you already read the pages for the A/C Technical Tips of SJM Auto-Technik, chapter Blower Motor replacement? That is the difficult way to do the replacement, but without damaging anything. I asked the same question in this newsgroup, if someone did know a metode, to do the replacement without taking half the car apart, and became the next answer, which I pass through now to the questioner: "Here’s my slightly crude method of doing it without taking half the car apart: The steps are: 1) Cut out the corrugated part of the black tube (duct) running form the blower plenum to the heater plenum. 2) remove 3 screws holding the part the duct attaches to, to the blower plenum. 3) Make the cut in the blower plenum as shown. Remove clip holding the right and left halves of that plenum together. All the pieces should come out, exposing the squirrel cage. 4) Disconnect electrical plug to blower. 5) Remove C-clip on the back of the motor. 6) Shove motor towards passenger side of car. The whole assembly should move far enough right so the cage can be lifted up where the duct used to be and the motor comes up through the slot you just cut. When reassembling, you can use a little sheet metal screw to hold the piece of the plenum you cut out in place for gluing. A polyurethane adhesive seems to work great. Put in the two remaining pieces of the duct and use aluminum tape to seal the small remaining gap. Should take about an hour to do, but will probably take two the first time. If you’re a pretty good wrench, it’ll be pretty obvious what to do , … if not, then take it to a mechanic.
" I have a photo that shows you where to cut into the blower plenum, but I did not attach it , because of its size (102 kB). I will mail it on your request to the mailadres to be indicated by you, or incase it will be found no problem I will attach it to an answer in this newsgroup. The suggestions I could give you are that the heater core tends to start leaking usually in the 8th to 12 year of ownership(depending on what coolant you use and your maintenance practices) , usually close to the time the blower motor gives up. You can replace the blower motor without removing the heater box using "the steak knife" method, but not the heater core. If the heater core hasn’t been previously replaced, the best bet is to get them both done at the same time and remove the heater box! If you keep your car for any length of time, you’ll be back in there again shortly if you don’t! And, for God’s sake, never use rebuilt or used parts for this repair. Only new OEM parts! OEM parts in the aftermarket are only about $160U.S. for a new blower motor and heater core. The temptation not to remove the heater box is great because of all the other components in the way. However, most of the dash parts come off very quickly, same under the hood. On this job, it helps though if your over 6′-4" tall when working under the hood, and under 5′-4" and 140 lbs. working inside the car. The blower box can be a bit stubborn though.
